Fans of the smash hit series The Walking Dead will remember the Chambler family, befriended by The Governor in Season 4. One of the shocking tragedies of that season was the death of young Meghan Chambler at the hands of a buried zombie. That character was played by Meyrick Murphy, an up-and-coming actress who we had the pleasure of interviewing via email recently.
Meyrick’s latest work is a complete about-face from her ordeals dealing with the undead walkers: she plays Phoebe Barrows, who does not get eaten by zombies at all, in the new film A Belle For Christmas that just got released on DVD and is also available on VOD.
From the synopsis: “Dean Cain stars as Glenn Barrows, a recent widower doing his best to raise his young kids Elliot (Jet Jurgensmeyer) and Phoebe (Meyrick Murphy) who really miss their mom. When the Barrows adopt an adorable puppy named Belle during the holiday season, it seems that their healing may have begun. But will Glen’s dog-hating, gold-digging new girlfriend (Kristy Swanson) spoil their new found happiness, or can Elliott and Phoebe pull off a daring Christmas Eve rescue of their beloved new pet? Haylie Duff co-stars in this fun-filled furry family comedy that will warm hearts just in time for the holidays.”
Let’s find out a bit more about Meyrick and her new movie.
Hello Meyrick, nice to meet you! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi. I’m Meyrick Murphy. I’m eleven-years-old. I’m obsessed with John Hughes’ movies, fashion, Doctor Who, Supernatural, and Deadpool. I love the three R’s: reading, writing, and roller-skating. Thanks for asking me to do this interview!
How did you get started in show business?
It all started in kindergarten when I played Cindy Eller in a play that was a twist on the Cinderella fairy tale. I loved it and decided that I wanted to act more. And that’s what I did, and it’s an amazing feeling. It taught me that if you want something, then you can get it—if you set your mind to it.
But on the downside, the name of the play was Cindy Eller Plays Ball. No matter how good of an actor I am, or how many camera tricks are played, I CAN NOT PLAY BALL.
Tell us about your new movie “A Belle for Christmas.”
A Belle for Christmas is a holiday movie about a family, kids, and puppies. It’s out on DVD and On Demand Now!
It’s funny because I went from The Walking Dead to a movie with other kids and puppies. It was such a fun set to be on. Let me tell you, all the kids were hilarious. We played with puppies, played Minecraft, and ate cupcakes. They had great cupcakes at crafty every day. THEY WERE DELICIOUS.
What was it like working with Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson…were there any pranks or funny stories from set?
Kristy and Dean were great to work with! They were very down to earth and funny. Dean would even throw the football with us in between takes.
Ha ha! Actually, I do have quite the scandalous story! The other kids and I were sitting in our dressing room, which was connected to a bathroom. Well, Connor, who played Malcom, opened the door to the bathroom where Kristy was changing. He screamed and ran right out! Moral of the story: ALWAYS KNOCK!
And now for something totally different…what was your favorite part about working on the Walking Dead?
One does not simply choose a favorite part of working on TWD! Every part was my favorite. But the best part was when I was getting the grand tour of the set from writer Nichole Beattie while eating a snow cone.
And the hardest? I mean…were you scared with all those zombies walking around?
The hardest part was trying to act like I was sad and sulky when I was really having the BEST time!
Nah, I’m not one to get scared. I’m a Gryffindor.
We see that you are aspiring astrophysicist. So what is the most interesting thing for you about space and/or the universe?
The fact that there are more worlds out there that might hold intelligent life, many light years away, and we may never know. It’s just fascinating. I love reading the theories and coming up with my own.
Do you think aliens are real? Why or why not?
I think it’s highly possible. We may never know for sure, but I am almost positive that there are some organisms—like bacteria—living somewhere out there.
What do you have coming up next?
I’m working towards a few projects right now and I will let you guys know about them as soon as I can say something for sure.
