Meet Bekah Page, a talented and ambitious teen who is already making waves as an actress in both commercial and theatrical work. Having a deep passion for theatre, Bekah has taken on many roles, with her most recent portrayal being the beloved character “Jo” in the production of “Little Women.” She has numerous commercial credits under her belt and several roles on YouTube series. And recently, Bekah wrapped her first feature film, “Blue Murder,” which will be released next year.
But Bekah’s talents extend beyond the stage. She is also a formidable archer, having claimed first place in her latest tournament. She graduated high school at 15 and began taking law courses at that tender age. Not only that, but this skilled and passionate writer is hard at work on her own screenplay!
As a young and talented teen, Bekah’s future as a star is undeniably bright. Let’s find out more about her in her Q&A with TWK!
Hi Bekah, it’s so great to e-meet you! Let’s talk about your recent role as Jo in Little Women. What did you enjoy most about bringing this iconic character to life?
Hello, it’s lovely to e-meet you too! Since I was little, I have always admired the character and all that she stands for, so it was an honor to portray such a bold, courageous, independent young woman such as Jo March.
You’ve done a mix of theater, commercials, YouTube series, and now you’ve wrapped your first feature film, Blue Murder. How does your approach to acting differ between these mediums?
When it comes to theater, it’s important that the very back row can see and feel your emotion as easily as the front row. You have to exaggerate some movements and project as much as possible. With film and TV, the audience is much closer to your face and the camera picks up even the slightest eye movement!
Overall, when filming a series or movie, I try to stay as grounded as possible and focus on the subtleties.
What can you tell us about Blue Murder? Do you have a favorite moment or behind-the-scenes memory from the set?
Blue Murder is a horror comedy (that includes a whole lot of screams!). My favorite behind-the-scenes moment was recording audio for a scene where my character, Pamela, is running and screaming. It was really funny to run around a room screaming at the top of my lungs with nobody actually chasing me LOL.
You’re an accomplished archer—how did you get into archery, and what’s your secret to staying focused in such a competitive sport?
I first started archery at 7 years old when a range opened up near my house. I instantly fell in love with the sport and never looked back.
Tournaments can be quite stressful at times due to pressure and competitive energy. The most important and helpful tool is to focus on your breathing. It clears your mind and helps you stay focused on the target.
Balancing acting, archery, and even writing your own screenplay sounds like a lot! How do you stay motivated to excel in all these different areas?
I always say that the key to motivation is passion. It can be overwhelming at times but I remind myself how much I truly love what I do and how fortunate I am to pursue my passions every day.
You graduated high school at just 15 and are already taking law courses—what sparked your interest in law, and how do you balance that with your creative career?
My interest in law started at a very young age and has grown every day since. I’ve always had a desire to help bring justice and a voice to the innocent. Balancing school with my acting and other endeavors can be difficult, but scheduling my week ahead of time helps me find time for it all!
Is there any crossover between your passion for writing and your acting? Have you ever thought about creating a role for yourself in one of your screenplays?
Absolutely! I love getting to act in my projects and work on both sides of production. It’s super fun to have such creative freedom in my characters. I can’t wait to tell everyone more about the films I’m working on soon!
When you’re performing in front of a live audience versus being on camera, how does the experience change for you?
I love both equally in different ways, but I will say that it’s truly beautiful to see and meet the audience when it’s a live performance. It’s also wonderful meeting so many people on set! With theater, it’s the same show every night. With film, it’s a new journey every day on set!
Since you’ve experienced both the highs of performing and intense competitions in archery, which do you find more challenging: landing a perfect performance or hitting a bullseye?
Both require lots of training and dedication. They’re very different, but do have some similarities! It’s all about commitment, focus, and determination. That’s my responsibility, and then I let the future decide where my “arrow” lands. In some ways, I’d say landing a perfect performance is hitting a bullseye itself!
What do you think is the most important quality an actor needs to succeed in both stage and film?
One of the most important parts of acting is vulnerability. You have to allow the audience into your character’s mind, and yours. It isn’t about pretending, it’s all about feeling. Let yourself truly open up and never doubt yourself or your emotions.
Who are your biggest inspirations, both in the acting world and beyond?
Acting wise, I’ve always really looked up to Jameela Jamil. She is such a talented actress and beautiful human inside and out. I also really love Bonnie Wright and actually got to meet her last year! She is so,so lovely. Stephen King is one of my main inspirations as a writer, along with my dad who is a passionate writer himself. He taught me a lot at a young age.
As a young actor in the spotlight, how do you handle social media pressures, trolls, or negative comments?
Social media can be a very overwhelmingly negative space. People hide behind their screens and feel the need to comment nonsense. At the end of the day, it has everything to do with them and their own insecurities. I remind myself that the people who comment rude things are really just sad and unhappy themselves. Never let anyone stop you from doing what you love!!
If you could give one piece of advice to other teens who want to break into acting or follow their passions like you have, what would it be?
Stay true to yourself and keep your head up! A lot of this industry is hearing the word “No” (They really need to learn the ‘Yes, and” rule!) and it can be hard to stay positive. It’s important to remember that just because one role isn’t right for you, it doesn’t mean the right one isn’t out there! You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so never stop putting yourself out there.
Is there any role—on stage or in film—that you haven’t done yet but dream of playing one day?
For theater, I’ve always dreamt of being in “Heathers.” I’d love to play any character but I think Heather C would be especially fun! In the TV and film world, I’d love to be in an action movie or show! I also love reading, so being in a project based on a book would be really cool. I especially love the MCU and DC (MJ or Poison Ivy would be rad!) and I think Percy Jackson is awesome!
If you had to describe your writing style in three words, what would they be?
As a writer, choosing only three words is hard, I’m a rambler! But I’ll try my best for you. I’d say: Sentimental, imaginative, thought-provoking.
When you’re not working or studying, how do you like to unwind?
I love to draw and paint! I also find baking very relaxing.
Favorite snack when you’re deep in a writing session or after a big tournament?
All my friends and family know how much I LOVE pickles with cane sugar. (Don’t knock it til you try it!) I also couldn’t live without mango!
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
Not many people know that I’m a huge history buff! I’m especially intrigued with the history of the Titanic. I also collect antiques and artifacts. My favorite item I own is an artifact that was retrieved from the wreckage of the Titanic!
What’s one food you absolutely refuse to eat and why?
I’ve never been a fan of quinoa! Something about the texture just psyches me out.
Can you give us a sneak peek of what you’re working on next, whether it’s acting or writing
I’m currently writing, directing, and starring in a psychological horror film that revolves around a group of old friends reuniting over dinner. Tension is high as they confront their past and shift the blame for the ultimate falling out of the once tight-knit group. The plot thickens as they realize some of them aren’t the same people they were at the start of the night...literally.
