Interview with Modern Family’s Jeremy Maguire – Emotional Moments from the Final Episode

Eight-year-old actor Jeremy Maguire just wrapped up his role as ‘Joe Pritchett’ on the hit ABC comedy Modern Family, the character for which he is best known — having played him for five years! Apart from the iconic series, Jeremy can also be seen in the drama film I’m Not Here, opposite J.K. Simmons and Sebastian Stan, an appearance on the TV series The Last Ship and the upcoming film The Virgin of Highland Park.

Jeremy has always loved to be in the spotlight and, despite his age, is not shy or timid when it comes to being on stage. Jeremy loves to utilize his creative side not only with acting, but with drawing, craft-making, singing, and storytelling. Whether it’s on set or on the red carpet, you can catch Jeremy in his iconic cape and ready to answer any trivia questions you can think of on Harry Potter and Star Wars.

Growing up on set and having to say goodbye to people who have become like family is tough. Scroll down for our interview with Jeremy where he opens up about the last days of filming and how he feels about each cast member!

Hello Jeremy, hope you are doing well! How are you spending your days during the quarantine?

I usually go to school so this whole homeschooling thing is different but it is filling up my mornings. When I’m done I take a long lunch and then have some facetime with friends. I play with my sister, and after dinner we play some video games! I read and study a little bit before bed. Some days we will have a movie night or game night!

What’s the one thing you would say has helped you cope the most through these recent coronavirus times?

Having my sister with me helps a lot! She’s my best friend and we’re in this together!

The series finale of Modern Family will have aired by the time this interview comes out. Tell us what shooting your final scene was like.

The final scene that I filmed was the last and final scene for everyone at the same time. It was our last hug. The emotions in that hug were so real for us all. When we were done filming it they wrapped each one of us individually with a final hand clap. Every cast and crew member and everyone else watching us film had tears in their eyes. I’ll never forget that day.

Any emotional stories you can share with us about everyone leaving the show?

There were so many emotional times in that final two weeks! Our final table read we all did a standing ovation when we finished reading the script and cried a bit knowing the following week it would all be over. In that last week I think we just wanted to soak each other up as much as possible. It went by really fast.

What has been the best or most rewarding part about your Modern Family experience?

I’m very thankful for the friends I made. I know it was a big opportunity for me to learn from such great people and I am so happy that I was a part of such a big popular show!

And the biggest challenge about being on the show?

The biggest challenge for me was the early call times lol. We would start work sometimes as early as 6:30 in the morning which means I had to be up even earlier than that to eat and get ready. I’m a good morning person but who doesn’t want to stay in bed and stay all nice and warm, right?

Who would you say you are going to miss the most from the cast and why?

That’s such a trick question! I’m gonna miss everyone for different reasons.

I’ll miss learning from Ed and our talks.

I’ll miss Sofia’s hugs, her teasing me, and making me laugh.

I’ll miss kidding around with Rico and our dance parties. All the things brothers do.

I’ll miss Julie and the way she would just play with me anywhere it didn’t matter where we were!

I’ll miss Ty’s kindness and encouragement.

I’ll miss Sarah and Ariel’s hugs and the way they would hold me on their laps to talk when we filmed together.

I’ll miss jumping around with Nolan and our goofy convos.

Jesse is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and he was so funny!

Eric would love to tease me in a good way but always played my trivia games with me and we loved sharing jokes.

Aubrey is my buddy and we would keep each other company in school. I’m gonna miss making videos and having fun on set with her.

I’m gonna miss everyone for so many different reasons!

If you weren’t a performer, what other type of career would you be interested in pursuing?

I have a lot of interests and I know as I get older I’ll figure it out but for now I love acting and want to keep doing it. One day I would like to be a director but I also think it would be great to be a doctor and I like the thought of being a marine biologist. We shall see!

Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you?

I have a very sensitive nose and I smell everything before I eat it. It can sometimes make me very picky about what I eat. It drives my mom crazy!

Biggest pet peeve?

I really can’t stand tiny splashes in my face.

Tell me one food you REFUSE to eat!

CORN! I’ve never liked it even as a baby

Favorite superhero character?

My favorite superhero is Jesus! Aquaman comes in second!

If you could pass a law everyone in the world had to follow, what would it be?

The way a trash truck goes around and picks up trash I would also have a day of each week that a different truck goes around picking up food donations for the homeless so that no food would go to waste.

Favorite movie star?

I love Joe Manganiello because I’ve been able to meet him and hang out with him. He’s such a nice guy and fun to talk to.

Favorite movie or TV show?

I love the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies and books. I can read and watch them over and over. They are so funny!

Favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject is history and geography. I like learning about all subjects. My least favorite is math.

What else are you working on or have coming up next?

I just finished filming a movie called The Virgin Of Highland Park not sure of the release date yet but I’ll be keeping people updated on that on my Instagram!

18.   Could we get a selfie of whatever you are doing at the moment? It’s something we ask to keep it real for the fans!
