Fans of New York Times Best-selling Author Jennifer Donnelly’s Deep Blue have been anxiously awaiting the second book in The Waterfire Saga, called Rogue Wave. Well, soon their wait will be over, as the book is slated for a January 6th release date.
For readers new to the series, the first book Deep Blue introduces the merpeople, a race of beings with a lot of parallels to our own who live in underwater communities all over the planet complete with streets, restaurants and other trappings of modern civilization.
The main character, Serafina is a teenage mermaid slated to marry a prince, who instead of happiness ever after finds herself embroiled in mystery and adventure when her mother is poisoned by an assassin’s arrow. Political tensions flare and the specter of war emerges. Serafina, led by dreams, attempts to locate five other mermaid heroines to join her in her quest to save the merworld from a dark conspiracy.
While some readers took issue with the extensive mer-language introduced by the author, online reviews are generally positive and praise the strong female characters and the diversity of the others.
In the new book, Rogue Wave, the heroines discover more about their pasts and face a growing peril as they search for six charmed talismans and deal with a traitor.
