How to Smell Good Before a First Date

First impressions are everything, especially when it comes to a first date. How you look, how you carry yourself, and how you smell can either make your date instantly feel good about you or really turn them off. Making sure you smell nice isn’t terribly difficult. Here are some easy things you can do to make sure you smell good for a first date.

Use Cologne and Perfume Conservatively

When trying to smell good for a date, it can be tempting to douse yourself in cologne or perfume. Resist that temptation. There is such a thing as too much, and, as anyone who’s ever walked by a boys’ locker room after PE knows, it doesn’t take much to overdo it. You don’t want to make it impossible for your date to breathe because you applied too much product. Carefully spritz or dab your chosen product to your pulse points such as the skin at your wrists and neck. This will help the product meld with your natural oils and create a scent that is unique to you.

Avoid Certain Foods

Bad breath can really mess with your date. If you want to avoid bad breath, one of the things you can do is to avoid eating certain foods before and during your date. Milk can cause bad breath because bacteria on your tongue eats away at the amino acids in dairy. Garlic and onions are commonly considered a community food. If one person isn’t eating them, no one else should either. It’s really hard to get the smell of garlic or onions off your breath, so pass on those for now.

Practice Good Hygiene

It’s pretty difficult to cover up the smell of poor hygiene. Instead, practice good hygiene to give yourself a better baseline for how you smell. Shower before your date and use deodorant. Brush your teeth and the rest of your mouth thoroughly, including your tongue. Make sure you wear clean clothing. If you’re doing the smell test to decide if it’s clean or not, either throw it in the wash to make sure or pick another outfit.

You don’t really get do-overs when it comes to first dates. Make sure you smell nice by using cologne or perfume properly, avoiding certain foods that can make you and your breath smell unpleasant, and practicing good hygiene. Smelling good will help you make the best first impression you can on your first date.
