Hormones 

Throughout puberty and adolescence, your body’s hormone levels fluctuate. Increased hormones lead to your skin producing more oil and this can cause acne to break out. Your hormones can fluctuate for many reasons. 

Periods can create a hormone imbalance that causes breakouts. Acne can become worse before, during, or after a period. When it comes to hormonal acne, there isn’t much you can do to stop it. You simply need to keep maintaining your skincare routine and keep your skin clean. 

Stress

While you’re going through puberty and adolescence, you also have to deal with school, extracurricular activities, jobs, family obligations, and more. This can cause a great deal of stress as you try to balance everything. Unfortunately, stress can also make your acne worse. You can handle stress acne in a few ways. It’s helpful to reduce your stress as much as possible and try out some stress relief techniques. You should pair this with improving your skincare routine. Try stronger spot treatments, wash your face often, and relieve your act with a cold or hot compress. Taking care of yourself, both mentally and physically, can help you reduce your acne. 

Acne can be caused by many things and everyone will have a different experience. Pay attention to the patterns in your life to help you determine when and why you break out. This can help you make a plan to improve your skin moving forward.
